Department of Accounting

As Interim Chair, it is with pride that I welcome you to the Department of Accounting at the University of North Texas, the largest university in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.  Accounting, one of five departments in the College of Business, is separately accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).  The department offers a BS in Accounting Control Systems, MS in Accounting (four separate program tracks), MS in Taxation, MBA in business with a concentration in Accounting, and a PhD in Accounting.  In the past, UNT's accounting program has been ranked as one of the top 20 programs in the nation by the Public Accounting Report, a national newsletter for accountants.

UNT Accounting faculty are known for excellence in teaching, basic and applied research, and leadership in professional organizations.  One faculty member holds the Paden Neeley Professorship for Teaching Excellence in Accounting and another is a UNT Regents Professor for outstanding teaching and research.  Additionally, faculty have received the President's Council University Teaching Award, Texas Society of CPA's Outstanding Educator Award, and been designated by Mortar Board, a senior honor society, as Top Profs.  Our faculty have also contributed significantly to the body of accounting research and scholarship through publication in premier academic journals (Accounting Organizations & Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, and The Accounting Review) and professional journals (CPA Journal and Journal of Accountancy).  Accounting faculty are active leaders in the American Accounting Association and its various sections plus involved in local accounting professional organizations.  The department also supports two outstanding student organizations, Beta Alpha Psi (the national accounting honorary) and the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA).

From a technology perspective, UNT and the College of Business are on the cutting edge.  UNT has been named one of America's 100 Most Wired Colleges.  Specifically, the College of Business has seven computer labs, with 300 terminals, open 100 hours a week and instructors have access to computers, video projectors and players, and the internet in every classroom.  Further, the College of Business has walk-up computers for student use on its first floor plus the business building is designated a Wi-Fi area for computer access.

I invite you to examine the undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered by the Department of Accounting at the University of North Texas.  I know you will sense the tremendous pride that I have in this outstanding department.
