Shekita M. Rawls
My name is Shekita Rawls; I am originally from Kirbyville, TX. I’ve always been encouraged by my family to accomplish my goals. Knowing that I can do all things through Christ, keeps me focused on this task. After obtaining my Associate degree, I transferred to University of North Texas and received my Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting in May of 2005. During my experience in the undergraduate program, I was involved in NABA, served on the Student Accounting Advisory Board, and became an INROADS intern.
UNT’s accounting program has provided me with the basic knowledge and understanding I need to enter the accounting industry. The classes challenged me to think outside the box by applying what I learn to the real world. To gain experience in the accounting field, I have been working with Brinker International, one of Fortune’s “Most Admired Companies”. Brinker has allowed me to intern in the Restaurant Accounting Department, Tax Department, and currently I am interning in the Auditing Department.
There are many attributes I love about the accounting department such as: accessibility of accounting professors outside of class, student organizations, internship and professional job opportunities, and scholarships. In order to pursue my goal in becoming a CPA, I will start working on my Master’s of Science in Accounting during fall 2005 here at UNT.
Receiving an accounting scholarship motivated me to further my education. Words can’t explain how grateful I am to have the Scholarship Committee and the Award Donor think enough of me for this opportunity. Education is expensive and every inch of support helps individuals like me to achieve goals.
Thanks!
