BBA Degree Requirements

The BBA degree consists of four components: the University Core ; Pre-Business/Lower Level Business Foundation ; Upper Level Foundation which incorporates courses designed to provide a consistent and basic foundation in business administration; and the Professional Field and Supporting Courses in which students select an area of specialization within business. A listing of courses required for each professional field may be obtained from the Advising Office. If you have further questions, please contact us at 940-565-2110.


IMPORTANT NOTE: Courses in blue must be completed with a "C" or higher, a 2.7 UNT GPA, and a minimum of 45 semester hours must be completed before enrolling in any upper level business courses and/or filing for a degree plan. Upper level business courses are those that are numbered 3XXX or 4XXX and have one of the following prefixes: ACCT, BUSI, BCIS, BLAW, FINA, RMIN, MGMT, DSCI, MKTG, REAL, or LSCM.

*Courses that will fulfill University and College requirements. Courses used to fulfill both University and College requirements will increase number of required free electives.


University Core Requirements (47 Hours)

  • English Composition and Rhetoric: (6 hours) - Minimum grade of "C" required
    • ENGL 1310 College Writing I
    • ENGL 2700 Technical Writing (preferred) or ENGL 1320 College Writing II
  • *Mathematics (3 hours - College Algebra or higher)
    • Best selection for business students: *MATH 1400 or *MATH 1190
  • Natural Science (8 hours)
    • Any two natural science courses (courses must contain labs)
  • Visual and Performing Arts (3 hours)
  • United States History (6 hours)
    • HIST 2610 U.S. History to 1865
    • HIST 2620 U.S. History from 1865
  • Political Science (6 hours)
    • PSCI 1050 or PSCI 1060 U.S. Government
    • PSCI 1040 Texas/U.S. Constitutions
  • *Social and Behavioral Science (3 hours)
    • One course from approved list
    • Best selection for business students: *ECON 1100 or *ECON 1110
  • Cross Cultural, Diversity, and Global Studies (3 hours)
  • Communication (3 hours)
    • One 3 hour course from approved list
    • Best selection for business students: *COMM 1010

Pre-Business/Lower Level Business Foundation Requirements *(17-26 Hours)

  • Economics (6 hours) Minimum grade of "C" required.
    • *ECON 1100 Microeconomics
    • *ECON 1110 Macroeconomics
  • Communications (3 hours)
    • COMM 1010
  • Mathematics (3 hours) Minimum grade of "C" required.
    • *MATH 1400 College Math with Calculus or *MATH 1190 Business Math with Calculus
  • Free Electives: Number of required free elective hours will vary depending on course selection and/or placement. Students must complete a minimum of 127 hours for degree.
  • Introduction to Computers (3 hours) Minimum grade of "C" required.
    • BCIS 2610
  • Accounting (6 hours) Minimum grade of "C" required.
    • ACCT 2010 Principles of Accounting (Financial Accounting)
    • ACCT 2020 Principles of Accounting (Managerial Accounting)
  • Data Analysis with Spreadsheets (3 hours) Minimum grade of "C" required.
    • DSCI 2710

Business Foundation Requirements (24 Hours)

These courses must be completed at the JR/SR level

  • Business Communications:
    • Choose one course from MGMT 3330, MKTG 3010 (recommended for Marketing majors) or BCIS 3615
  • BLAW 3430: Legal and Ethical Environment of Business
  • BCIS 3610: Basic Information Systems
  • MKTG 3650: Foundations of Marketing Practice
  • DSCI 3710: Business Statistical Analysis Using Spreadsheets
  • FINA 3770: Finance
  • MGMT 3720: Organizational Behavior
  • BUSI 4940: Business Policy
    • Must be taken during the student's graduating semester

All foundation courses listed above BUSI 4940 must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher before enrolling in BUSI 4940.

Professional Field and Supporting Courses (30 Hours)

Students will select on of the following Professional Field area options:

^The BS in Business Computer Information Systems, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, and Accounting have coursework and GPA requirements that may vary slightly from the BBA requirements listed above. Please refer to the Bachelor of Science Degree Program Overview and/or the BS BCIS, BS LSCM, BS BACS, or the BS/MS ACCT tracksheets available in the Advising Office.
